Dang. There I go wanting things from ridiculously-over-priced-so-not-worth-what-they're-asking-for-it-(yeah, even sale prices) Anthropologie. I've spied these table-top terrariums around bloggy town lately and man, do they have my number. Can't you just see a little mushroom with a red and white polka dot cap growing in one of these? Not that I'm any more successful at terrarium type greenery than I am with any other plants... I currently have two very crusty moss gardens strugglin' on the front porch. They are, however, strugglin' in some awesome vintage Frankoma ware, so there's at least something nice there to look at. And I guess that's where I'm headed (with an imaginary shopping cart) with these beauties from Anthro.

Let the Birthday Madness Begin

Somebody suggested to me that I have more fun with my daughter's Birthday Parties than she does...
Okay, this may actually be true. I'll admit to the fact that I wholeheartedly geek out on planning and executing a themed party. It may be the best part about having a kid so far (yeah, I just typed that...bring on the mommy warriors). It just really puts me in my element(s) and showcases my strengths, albeit for a short time...and once a year. She hardly notices at this point, and eventually she will shrug off my efforts completely, but for now: I AM BIRTHDAY-ZILLA!

Fake it till ya make it
I love terrariums. No, No-- I lurve them. But as it turns out, I have a black thumb. I can only imagine that plants see me coming, get light headed, and let out little green shrieks of, "away with you, SADIST!", before withering, shriveling, or crusting over.
My solution today was to create a sort of faux-terrarum out of the things I am good with: paper, glue, and kitschy crap I have laying around my house. I fashioned the one pictured above from a small jam jar, pebbles, glue, a handmade paper branch with leaves, and a mini Domo figure (from the Target clearance shelf)! It's going to be a birthday gift for a friend tomorrow.
I had fun making it, and I think I'll try some more...maybe a neat thing for the etsy shop? What do you think?

Spring Trolling
So, I confess: I have a super power. Show me a pile, a room, nay, a building full of junk/trash and I will comb out beautiful and unsung treasures. Oh, and pay an nth of their worth for them. I know, I know- Some of you out there can work sewing machines and program computers and negotiate big business deals or save lives or something, but be jealous of me. Really. Okay, maybe it isn't a super power, but it gives me such a high. When I unearth a sweet piece of mid century pottery for under a dollar at the Goodwill, my heart starts to pound as I look over my shoulder to see if anyone else is seeing this mother-effing amazing find! It's a little sick...
Here's what I've found while trolling around this Spring.

I'm not not licking toads...

So, from the looks of this here blog-a-ma-gig, I haven't been doing anything for months. And from the looks of my real life you might say I haven't been doing anything either...well, nothing to speak of. I have been putting all of my energy into something I really don't enjoy- my job (yikes! that's a big 'ol pathetic statement)- and have been spending a whole lot of time wallowing around in the unhappiness and unfulfillment of it all. Yuck- that's incredibly pathetic too, not to mention entirely unproductive. Well, trying to work my way out of that funk, so I thought I would post some pics of a couple of things I did last weekend- things that I actually like to do. I had a couple of parties to go to this week (um, my Grandpa's 89th Birthday and a neighbor's housewarming...nothing wild), so I collaged the cards for the guests of honor. It was fun for me to zone in and cut and paste these little pictures:

I'll be back later with pictures and news about the antiquing trip I took 'out west' earlier this week...another thing I actually like to do.
*Anyone remember the Simpsons episode I quoted in the post title? It's my favorite!

Blog Coma
Wow....so, not much going on here for a while (insert sound of vulture cry echoing across a vast and empty canyon). But man, if you could read the blog I've been writing in my head! I know...that is beyond pathetic. Soon, my friends, soon.

A Girl's Gotta Eat
So here's what happens when you have the job of being the private chef of an all-of-the-sudden very picky toddler. I exposed her to a variety of wonderful, tasty, and very healthy foods (all of which she happily ate, I might add) as soon as she got the all clear on solid foods, but as of late she waves the green flag for only a select few items. I have to get pretty creative with the presentation of said few items so the two of us don't bore our selves to certain starvation (on her part) or insanity (on mine). I've been documenting some of my plates. It's one of the little things that puts a smile on my face and has me cracking up inside my head...I don't think anyone else (*ahem*...the toddler) really has the same appreciation.
